SOOTHING YIN FOR LUNGS WITH ACUPRESSURE AND PRANAYAMA
PROPS: bolster or pillows under the back for reclined butterfly, optional blocks or folded blankets to support the thighs
The beginning of this practice offers a mix of techniques combining Western and Eastern approaches to releasing trapped energy and emotions. Using breath, vagus nerve stimulation, lymph stimulation and sound. Pick any technique that works or use the entire combo. If you don't have time for the whole practice - just do the beginning and you'll still benefit hugely from it!
The acupoint we used Lung 2 - Cloud Gate - is often used for times of mourning, grief and depression. But also for finding inspiration, remembering our inherent goodness and value, helps with negative mindset and to boost self-worth. Often the image of clouds parting to allow our light to shine is used in association with the name of the point.
That same area around the collarbones a (above and below) is abundant with lymph nodes - we use tapping as a way to stimulate and move lymph (but any type of touch work). We then add an exhale with "ssss" sound for a more potent release. The extended exhale also calms the nervous system into a rest, digest, heal mode.
We also use a breath practice called "sama vritti" also known as equal breathing or box breathing. Another technique that calms our physiology and switches on the relaxation response.
* Sidenote about lymphatic system (my latest passions) - it is a smart, intelligent omnipresent system that has higher concentration of lymph nodes in certain areas of the body (like the major joint for example). Lymphatic system is very good at figuring out what needs to stay in the body and what needs to go (microorganisms and other substances that do't belong in your body). It acts like a mediator or a filter as it sorts out what is not needed sending things off to our detox organs like kidneys, liver and skin. Lymphatic system has numerous functions and it is a major part of your immune system.
